Brazilian-born soprano Ariana Wehr, originally from Batesville, Indiana is a graduate of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program with Washington National Opera and has been seen and was seen in the 2017-2018 season as Amy March in Little Women with Annapolis Opera and Konstanze in The Abudction from the Seraglio with Brava! Opera Theater, and the Semi-Finals of the METROPOLITAN OPERA NATIONAL COUNCIL AUDITIONS. In the 2016-2017 season, Ariana was Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro as well as Susanna in the Emerging Artist's Performance of Le Nozze di Figaro, Ms. Holy in the world premiere of Mohammed Fairouz's The Dictator's Wife, and Zerlina in Don Giovanni directed by Francesca Zambello.

Upcoming performances in the 2018-2019 season include the 52nd International Vocal Competition S’Hertogenbosch in The Netherlands, Despina in Cosi fan tutte for Opera in the Heights, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel in a return to Brava Opera Theater, a debut with the Naples Philharmonic singing Pulcinella by Stravinsky, Micäela in Carmen in a return to Opera Louisiane, and debuting in the roles of Girlfriend #1/Nurse/Congregant in Blue at The Glimmerglass Festival.

In the 2015-2016 season, Ariana was Abigail Williams in Francesca Zambello's production of The Crucible at The Glimmerglass Festival,  Kahua in the world premiere of Better Gods at Washington National Opera and as Gretel in Washington National Opera's Holiday Opera production of Hansel and Gretel. She has appeared as Frasquita in Washington National Opera's 60th Anniversary season opening production of Carmen. She also made her debut with The National Symphony Orchestra singing Mozart's Exsultate Jubliate in 2015, covering the Forest Bird in WNO's production of Siegfried and covering the role of Musetta in La bohème at The Glimmerglass Festival. 

She was the soprano Artist-In-Residence for Pensacola Opera for the 2014-15 season where she performed the roles of Monica in The Medium, Musetta in La bohème, and Edith in The Pirates of Penzance. She has been a member of the Young Artist Programs of Nashville Opera, where she sang the role of Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Des Moines Metro Opera as Niece I (cover) in Peter Grimes, Opera Louisiane as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, and for two seasons with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre.

She was an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera in the Summer of 2013 where she covered Niece I in Peter Grimes and performed 7 scenes. She was also a  Young Artist with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre in early 2013 for their productions of La Bohème and as Crystal in their touring outreach opera, Frankenboy! A Monsteropera. She made her operatic debut with Opera Louisiane in Opera Louisiane's production of Hansel and Gretel as Gretel and was the soloist in the Louisiana premiere of Zelenka's Magnificat in C with the Baton Rouge Early Vocal Ensemble. 

Other roles include: Zerlina in Don Giovanni with DC Public Opera, FestivalSouth Opera, and covering the role at Natchez Festival of Music, Marianne in Romberg’s The New Moon with LSU Opera, Musetta in La Bohème with LSU Opera, First Sheep in Candide with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Le feu and Le rossignol in LSU Opera’s production of L’Enfant et les Sortileges, Giunone in La Calisto, and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte with the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute in San Francisco, Mrs. Nordstrom in Louisiana State University’s production of A Little Night Music, Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro with Lyric Opera Studio Weimar in Weimar, Germany. 

Ariana has also portrayed many leading ladies in scenes programs like Musetta (La Boheme), Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Mary Warren (The Crucible), Sophie (Werther), Hero (Beatrice et Benedict), Massenet’s Cendrillon, Ilia (Idomeneo), Cinderella (Into The Woods), Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Giulietta (I Capuleti e I Montecchi), Alice (Falstaff), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), and Arabella, as well as Adina (L’elisir d’amore).

Ariana studied with Patricia O’Neill at Louisiana State University where she received her B.M. in Vocal Performance in 2011 and her M.M. in Vocal Performance in 2013. She currently studies with William Stone. 

She was an Encouragement Award Winner from the Portland District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2013 and won the 2nd Place Marie E. Crump Memorial Award in the 26th and 27th Annual Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition in 2014 and 2015. She was the 3rd Place winner in the 2015 Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition and an Encouragement Award winner in the 2015 Giulio Gari International Vocal Competition. 

She is thrilled to also have won a 2015 grant from The Julian Autrey Song Foundation and is one of the top prize winners of the Sullivan Award from the 2015 Sullivan Foundation Competition and is so pleased to have been a finalist in the 2016 George London Foundation Competition.
